These are real racing go karts Baltimore. Sandy Hook Speedway is a little bit of a hike North of Baltimore but it is well worth the trip!
While Maryland isn’t the hub for NASCAR like North Carolina, and it certainly isn’t the epicenter for INDY Car like Indiana is.
But there are some awesome go kart tracks to race in the Maryland, Baltimore and DC area.
In 1964 they broke ground in Beltsville, MD building Beltsville Speedway. The track was relatively short-lived, closing in 1978. Noise restrictions played a part in the downfall of the track.
Before the track closed there were some historic races there. NASCAR greats the likes of Richard Petty, David Pearson and Tiny Lund all showed up to race.

These are not your dad’s rental go karts of the past. There was a gap in the market where people were craving the real thing. Real intense go karts. You asked and Autobahn delivered!
I have raced the go karts multiple times and I love them. The go karts handle great, have intense acceleration and for the most part all of the go karts are equal.

Sandy Hook Speedway – Real Go Kart Racing in Baltimore
Sandy Hook Speedway is more than a go kart track. This place will forever hold a special place in my memory. I had my first go kart race here as a young kid. At eight years old I jumped into our Trick go kart for the first time.
Marking the beginning of this crazy journey of go kart racing. We raced here for several years until Nicholson Speedway became our home track.
I loved Sandy Hook Speedway. The track was fun to drive, and we made so many friends that I still talk to today. Go kart racing is a family sport and I would encourage anyone to start.
The track layout is the same as it was 20 years ago. The pits are still the same as well. I’m sure the fun has not changed either!
Sandy Hook Speedway – The Racing
My favorite turn at Sandy Hook Speedway was the banked left-handed turn before the start finish line. As you exit the fast right hand dog leg and carry the speed into the left-hand banked turn you feel the g forces pulling you into the seat. The engine is pulling as hard as it can, and you are about pushing the pedal through the floor plate.
If you are behind someone the thrill of gaining ground is like nothing else. If you are being chased, you can hear the roar of the competitor’s engine creeping up to make a pass. Either way the speed, fun and challenge is what you will remember!
Stop over at Sandy Hook Speedway and watch some races. You will enjoy watching from the spectators’ hill or from in the pits. Chat with some racers and see if they can help answer any questions you may have.
Feel free to reach out to me as well if you have any questions about getting into the sport of go kart racing!

The Go-Kart Track – Go Karts Near Baltimore
The Go Kart Track is a family fun go karting location that everyone in the family can join in on. There are go karts for kids, adults and teens. There are even double seater go karts so children as young as 3 years old can ride along!
Go karting is a family sport and what better way to get everyone involved than at the Go Kart Track. My favorite feature of this go karting location in Baltimore are the go karts for kids. On the junior track kids as tall as 42″ can drive their own go karts!
The special braking system allows the brakes to slowly apply when the youngster releases the throttle pedal. This is a feature on the junior go karts. This assists them in controlling the go kart while they are still learning.
If you are a bit older and want to have some more fun the drifting go karts are for you! They will slick the track down with a powder, greatly reducing the traction. Essentially putting you in a constant oversteer condition. Hold on as you drift around each corner!
